Much color! So wow ! :D

A comic page in color!

Since I'm scribbling comic pages a lot the last time, and an online discussion about making comics, I decided to give it a shot and convert one of the scribs in full color.

Fitting to the hot weather outside, everything is covered in snow and ice :'D

Here we go!
I made full color comic pages before, but this felt a lot different. It's not just that it's not the cartoony style and more complex outlines but also the amount of thought that goes into the coloring and shading. In the end, this thing consumed a lot more time to make than I give to pics usually, and easily like 4 or 5 times the amount of the cartoon pages :'D

That to say, I'm really glad how the atmosphere turned out. I wanted it to be light and cold when this characters meet the first time, and that just works so much better in color <3

Still, as much as I love the results, I think if I ever manage to serialize a comic, color pages will be an exception bc they eat up so much work and time ^^°

What do you think? :D

Have a nice day! ^^

Smoke underwater

Hello readers! :D

Being underwater was always fascinating to me.
I love the light, the dull sound, the feeling of being surrounded by water and the comfort of floating in it.
And on the other hand you have this dull pressure, the knowing that you cannot fucking breathe and that you in fact don't have save ground under your feet to stand on. Not to mention all the known and unknown dangers that water holds. Which is why I never seriously considered to get a diver's license. The ocean is fucking terrifying!

Back to drawing!
This one started with a small scribble in my sketchbook, and I first wanted to draw the thing again on bigger, better paper and work from there. But I shortly after just scanned the sketch and worked from there. I'm still not over how amazing my new cintiq pen is. It's so amazing, really!

I really like the image of underwater stuff, but for some reason I hardly ever draw it? Maybe I should think of a mermaid story or something similar...

For comparison, this is the original sketch:

The biggest problem I had with inking (no matter if digital or analog techniques) is that I always had the feeling that so much of the dynamic of the original sketch gets lost when I do it, and it was so frustrating to see how amazing other people draw all kinds of dynamic stuff with ink. But I think I'm coming closer to the look I want to achieve every time I draw now, and that really really makes me happy :)

What do you folks think?

See you soon! ;)

Wu's Task Force

Helllooooo everyone! :D

Time for another group pic! ^^ Last time you got the whole division, this time it's the hard core of Wu's gang ;)

From top-left to right:
Seamus O'Riley, Sindile Ramonas, Fermín Selby, Ted D. Locks, Emma Wu and below them screamimng Diana Tennyson.

Done from a rough pencil sketch as always, inked by hand and colored in PS CS6 :D

Maybe I'll try that one with a more dynamic background at some point, but right now I like it pretty much :D  What do you think? ^^

Have a nice day, see you next week! :D

Mad Max:Fury Road ~ Valkyrie

Heyooo it'sa me, Naki again! :D

And yup, I actually did something I don't do often: FAN ART!
And of course, it's Mad Max: Fury Road fan art. Because it's the best freaking action movie in like, a decade? Or two? Okay, the last time I had the urge to watch a movie over and over again, it was Captain America: The Winter Solider, which is not that long ago. The motivation then was almost the same as now; a great story, cool, developed characters and awesome action*. And MM:FR is so good in all of these and even more. Like, I can't even remember when I saw that much kickass women in a movie?! I love Black Widow, but she stands kinda lonely between the other avengers**. And this has like, a bunch of warrior women in it, and I love every single one of them.

Especially Valkyrie!

She dosen't even have that much screentime, but gah, I think from the Vuvalini she's definitely my favorite, close followed from the Keeper of the Seeds. Hand to the heart, Furiosa is unreached on the top of everything, but Valkyrie is like, standing next to her on the ranking. And she really deserves more appreciation! >o<
I started out with a pencil sketch as always, and finished analog work with the ink version:
Now I think I could have put some more dirt in the ink version, kinda like the stuff in the background from the post before this one. But whelp, noted for the next time!

So, what do you think? Did you watched Mad Max: Fury Road? :D

Have a great time and a sunny weekend! <3 ^^

 ~ Naki

 * and an awesome soundtrack, great dialogues, great stunts, cool new characters, a great antagonist, FEELINGS, and, you get the idea.
**And I hated her arc in Age of Ultron. How can you fuck up a characterization that bad? Gnarf.

BULLETPROOF VESTS! EXPLOSION! KATANAS! (sort of.) YAY!

Hello out there! :D

A while ago I had the urge to splash around with ink, especially with the weird and awesome effects you can do with that stuff (and any other color that's just liquid and opaque enough). Liters of ink, opaque white and 2389 tissues later, this pic was the result:

The katana-like daggers (shortswords??) are a little bit of a stretch for this character, as she usually would rather fight with guns or combat knifes, but standing in the aftermath of an explosion counts as an extreme situation and extreme situations require weird weapon choices. I learned that from action movies!

Unfortunately I used an A3 drawing block, and was really unmotivated bc scanning it would have to be in parts and be put together afterwards (and I hate our scanner. GAH)... So this picture molded around here for some month. ANYWAYS motivation knocked and was like "AY let's do this!" and I scanned the damn pic! Luckily it was way less complicated than expected, and I had the black n white version you can see above on my pc, finally! 8D
Now the next step is obviously COLORS!!
And while I still struggle with colors (as with apparently everything else) I really like the outcome of this one. I had a very weird orange version at first, and I'm really glad I just put it on the side for a few days and worked it around until this one below:

Yo.
So, what do YOU think?

Take care of yourselves! <3

"The faceless girl" - Part 2 - Color

Heyho everyone! :D

As I promised, the pictures from the post before - now in COLOR!

Color done in Photoshop. A klick will make them bigger as usual ;)

Again, I tried to illustrate different daytimes/light situations and surfaces - which is so much more easy with color. At last I with this pictures it was!

Pencil-outlines are always a little bit messy to work with, because you usually don't have the clear borders ink has, and with a black n white scan too much gets lost. I'm still trying to find a better solution here (suggestions and tips always welcome), even if I really like how they turned out here! :>
My favourite is the third one; I've always disliked grey and brown, but they look so great. I might even overcome the aversion against these colors, if they always turn out to be so harmonious ;D Do you have a favourite? :D

That's it from me now, see you soon ;)

Experiment bonus:

Take care!

It's Wu again

Hello again everyone! :D

Last time was full of stuff again. I went to Berlin to visit some friends, met a friend I only knew online for years the first time in real life and went to the Making Games Talents in Munich. It was all great fun! :D
>>Also, if you read this, dear person I met at the MGTs, I loved your drawings!! Please contact me, bc you were really cool and unfortunately I don't have any contact info of yours, and I'd really love to see more of your comic! :D <<

So, enough of this (who reads this anyway) and more for drawings!

It's Wu again, and I somehow managed to deal with my long time enemy "black ink" - I really really love how the outlines look, and I think I worked out the colors fine, too.

Her hand is what I love especially of this picture. But allover, this is one of my favorite pictures I drew of her 'till now :D
Of course I did a pencil drawing underneath the ink, and traced to a more ink-friendly paper. Have a look at this:

The pencil-version is more rough, and thou' I love the rough look of pencil, this is one of the very few moments I love the ink and color version more than the pencil picture.
What do you think? :D

Take care of yourselves! Eat more vegetables! No really, more and more people are ill here at the moment, so really, take care.

I love you! See you soon! :D

Throwing out all the old stuff

WELCOME AGAIN and HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

It's been some time, sorry for that. Life just ain't easy some times, and even if you have the time to fetch your hobbies in theory, life practice dosen't always work that way. So, thanks to all the people who are still following me, and sorry to all those who worried I might have given up here. A big hug to all of you!! (Also, if there would come the time I might REALLY give up on the blog or the story, I would let you know, bc it really unsettles me when people just stop posting. Who knows what happend to them??)

I even did some stuff, I just didn't manage to post it. Including some weird color experiments, YAY! So, new year, fresh start and let's throw out all the old stuff that was waiting in my little blogfolder to be shown to the world, wheee :D
Lets start with some bloodwork!

I like this picture very much. It's more a what-if than a piece that might happen in a story but I really really like how the colors turned out in this one.

And now let's go straight to the color experiments! :D

I think the one in the middle is my favourite, but I also like that weird pink thing on the right. Doing these was so much fun! :D Short after them, I made this one:

That might even be the same colors like the on above :D I love this one very much, although the colors ain't fitting the picture regarding content, but HEY! So much fun!

So, and in the end, we have some studies for light and composition, which ain't that exciting but I'll show you anyways ;)

I actually had some reference for these two but by now I lost them... :( I'll link them as soon as I find them! >o<

And that's it!!  YOU MADE IT TO THE END OF THE POST!! I am so proud of you! XD
So seriously, thank you for reading the whole thing.
Thank all of you for the loud or silent support!
I love you guys! Take care of yourselves!

Have a nice day! <3

A portrait of a fellow student

Heyho everyone! :D

I'm here again! ^^ After some cramped time with moving out and moving in there is some light on the horizont that it might be better soon. YAY!
But I still need to find a desk and a chair so that I can work on my PC again (yeah, I see the benefits of a laptop now... but who wants to work on a cintiq using a laptop?! 8D)
Anyways, some while ago (like, MONTH) I made a scribble of one of my teammates, because she is really pretty and wears such cute chlothes and has a great style so I just had to draw it XD
And finally worked it over in ps (getting better with digital inking, YAY).
So, meet Beyzar! :D

Also, she wears hats! Instant bonus points in sympathy XD
What do you think? ^^
Love you all! :D

Collaboration time!

Hello everyone! :D

Back again unusually fast ;)

Last week I stumbled across a nice lineart, and because I'm working on my coloration skills, I asked the artist Ralf Singh wether he'd like to see a colored version of his lines.
He said yes, and here's the result :D  Check out his stuff, he's got more cool linearts and is working on a comic project!

Photoshop only :)

This was great fun! I'd like to do sth like this again ;) Somebody has some great lines for me to color? XD Just leave me a message and let's talk ;)

Everybody, have a nice week! Take care :D

September 23, 2014

YAY, another experiment!

Yay, splatter splatter bang bang BOOM!

Or, what happens if you find a rough lineart on your pc and have too many PS-brushes and patterns you didn't try out. 8D

What else? I'm in panic and looking for an internship (maybe I'll link you my portfolio at some point) and my life is a mess of moving out, fighting paperwork, finding money to buy food and similar stuff. Gah, I'll be so glad that this will be over soon.

...I guess I don't have much to say today. Stay tuned. See you next time. I love you all!

August 31, 2014

Shading tryout.

Actually I don't have much to say today. I'm desperatly trying to throw together an usable portfolio so I can go become a trainee somewhere for 6 month... guess I'll tell you more on that topic in a later post, so back to this one. (But if anyone has a hot tip or advice or anything for a design/illustration/2D animation internship, just contact me ;) )

It's just trying out colors and shading. Who cares for backgrounds! (or swords for that matter)

Strage pose is strage although I drew this one with help of a stock photo. Also I think the foot is either enormously stretchable or broken. Ouch.

Take care! :D

Captain America - Animation Video!! :D

SO!!

Hello dears, long time no see!
The last weeks were a little hard, bc the examination period is a little earlier here, and it's nearly OVER! :D and then the whole application stuff for an internship starts.... aaahhhhh AND WE WON THE WORLD CUP! YAY! :D

Anyways, we had to make a viral video for one of my courses - no further restraints, except it has to reach about 1000 views in a week - and bc I'm not doing any animation for my film class this semester, I decided to do a flash animation film, YAY! And because I'm a nerd, I made the new Captain America movie the topic of it XD (you'll find the vid on the bottom of this post! ;) )

So I started with some simple sketches ....
<--  like this

.....and put some layers of lineart and color on top....

 like that -->

.....and at the end of the day*, after hours of drawing and trying to get the backgrounds that people would somehow recognize what scene that might be, I had results like this:

.... this...

....stuff that is more dramatic....
....and some stuff that is more fun XD.

Luckily I had a great help with all the animation stuff - thanks again for that, Jule! :D You're my saviour ;) AND WE GOT IT FINISHED, FINALLY!!

Share, leave a like or a comment, criticize or just enjoy! ;)

Have a nice day! :D

*It's just a phrase, we didn't made that thing in a day, more in like a couple of days without any (or with very little) sleep and with lots and lots of energy drinks and coffee intus... 8D

December 31, 2013

Last post of the year!

... and I'm sick.
Like, literally, I can hardly speak and my nose is runny and my eyes 're streaming. Yikes.
Best conditions for a start in a new year - it can only get better >o<

I'll give you two pics on this 31st of December 2013 :3 Still from that sneaky comic project ;) And then I'm gonna go to bed again and sleep till' midnight.
Happy new year everybody! :D

THE HAT IS BAAAAAAACK!!!

Hey fellows! 8D

How are you?!
I hope you had some nice free days, because..... I kinda didn't.
No seriously, I feel like I had no freetime at all - thanks to that animation title WE ARE STILL WORKING ON..... *phews* Well at least that will be finished next week but still. Wtf.  I didn't even drew that much in my few free days when I was away from my pc an that animation.
BUT now the worst is done and allthough the next semester allready began, I feel I have more free time now than in the whole summer XD
So - the hat is back!

AND WITH IT A NEW COMIC! 8D

Enjoy XD

.... aka simple questions get straaaaaaaaange answers.... yep XD
What do you think? 8D And what did you do all summer long? ^^

Have a nice day! :D

Watercolor sketch

Hey out there! :D

No animations today, I'm working full capacity on that ballet-animation-thing. Maybe news from that at some point... ^^

BUT I have a (new) sketchbook and sometimes there are presentable pics in these XD

So, have this sketch of Emma:

Maybe I'm starting to like water colors :D What do you think?

Have a nice weekend!!

May 31, 2013

And finally.... Meet Locks! :D

Ohai guys! :D

Please welcome the final main-main character, whose story that comic will be! :D

Tadaa :D
He likes stuff to be simple ;) The other things he likes are coffee, cigarettes, sports, Emma, Otis and his cat. There are grounds for the assumption that his wadrobe includes only his uniform, some black t-shirts and trunks, and, like, 20 times the same white shirt and jeans. But that's just a wild guess XD
And again, any wild guess? ;D

Meet his friends Emma and Otis, too  ;)

So! Now I'm off to cologne, RPC anyone? :D

Have a nice weekend! ^^

May 25, 2013

Meet Emma :D and listen to my complains XD

Hellloooo out there!

I have a shitload of stuff to do for my classes, and what do I do? Right - blogposts... Ahahahaha :'D

No seriously, there's a deadline for monday, we have to do stuff for film/animation class and I REALLY should do something for verbal communications... argh... D: Sometimes I have this feeling that I should face this studies more... different... but that would be another, text-only post :'D

#Back to pictures! :D
Remember this guy? He's part of the comic I'm working on, and I thought it would be nice if the other characters main characters would get some kind of introducement, too :D
If you read this blog regulary, you might allready met them. But this is a series of introduction, so just enjoy! :D

So - Meet Emma, first main character and Police Captain.

Addicted to coffee, sports and kung-fu-movies :D
The red cup was a gift from Locks ^^ He's next in the line!

Thoughts, questions, wild suggestions? ^^

See you next week! :D

May 3, 2013

Making stuff (or even pretending to while thinking about Iron Man)

Titledesign, to be specific.

Yep! I went from my illustration class and am in the film/animation class now. YAY! This semester's topic is title design, and we're doing front credits for an animated film about a dancing boy ;)
ANIMATION. YES!! ...which means our group will have to draw about 2800 pics to make the animation nice and fluid... .... ... yeah I don't want to think about that. DRAWING ANIMATION IS AMAZING! 8D Let's see how long it lasts till I'll write "Animation sucks!" XD
So that's the status from the studyfront 8D

Have some Otis now. Say hello! :D
And yes, doing strange stuff with his hands is his secret hobby ;) I really like his shirt and I think this time got the hair much better than much times before 8D
Also, meet his pards Locks and Emma! :D

Copic on marker paper, like so many times before  ^^; I should get over copics at some point. They're just f*cking expensive! >o<

Have fun, a nice evening and a better weekend! XD See you soon! :D

PS: AFHAFLEWREKLSAFBHSDA AND HAVE YOU SEEN IRON MAN 3?! If not, go and see it. No, srsly. Except you're one of the people who can't stand changings from source material. But screw that, it's Ironman. 8D

April 20, 2013

Blue Shark

Welcome again you people out there! 8D

You may now be introduced with some amazing piece of art, done in a breathtaking style, while using only a fineliner and a blue edding, accentuated only with a white ball pen...
Blah blah blah...
... let's skip that bullsh*t, I just love this pic from my sketchbook ;)

I'd like to go to an aquarium again. I was in a big one in Belgium once, and they had glass tunnels and corridors through the aquariums and you sometimes had sharks swimming next to you or over your head. Amazing! :D Do you've ever been to a aquarium? ^^

Have a nice day! :D
