So - the hat is back!

AND WITH IT A NEW COMIC! 8D

Self-portrait and artists...!

Hey there!

So this is the first thing I did for my studys that I can actually show anyone! 8D

Everyone was like, "Awwwwww! She's sooo cute! Look at her dark circles around the eyes! And the fluffy haaair..."

Okay, I lied. Let's skip that part. It was praised and criticized, and all in all it was okay. There could definitely things I could have done better ^^°

And now, I will randomly change the subject to talk about something that bugged me for some time now - artiiiists! 8D

Several people have asked me the last time, why I react kind of negative when someone uses the term 'artist'.
First, I don't have a problem with someone calling someone else an artist.
I neither have a problem with someone calling me an artist.
I don't even have a problem with someone calling himselve an artist. Because there's no such thing as a strict definition of an artist, so anyone who likes it is allowed to be an artist.

What I do have a problem with, is the attitude that so very much people have, when they call themselve (or others) artists. There was a time when I was very active as a constructive critic on some forums and online galleries, and whenever I stumbled on a good picture that had some hard flaws on the other side, I wrote a constuctive critic under it. (I mainly corrected anatomy and stuff like that) Most times, I got reactions like "hey, thanks for the tips, I'll have a look at that next time!, and everything was nice and fluffy and full of unicorns and flowers.
But there were also these nice people on the internet (also in real life, but they were more subtle then) who didn't take criticism well. Which lead to reactions like
"What are you stupid? This isn't wrong, this is my STYLE!! I'm allowed to draw that way, cause I'm an ARTIST!"
Well, there's good wrong anatomy, when it all fits together*, and there's bad wrong anatomy, where it looks like your drawings are suffering from involuntary and unhealthy deformations.
And if the last is your "style", than fuck you, your 'style' sucks. To read more 'bout style or not style, have a look here.

"Artist" has somehow become a cheap word, used by people to lower others down and put themselves over them, and I don't want to play that game.

You're simply not an artist if you can't take on criticism and don't want to develop your 'art' and yourself.

So - that's why I don't really like to be called an artist, or like to hear how other people call themself artists..

In the end it's all about ignorance and people who use the words 'art' and 'artist' to legitimate themselves.

Have a nice day! 8D

*such drawing styles like Picasso, Naoko Takeuchi, Arina Tanemura, Anke Feuchtenberger, Kye Y. Chon, , Kandinsky, Ai Yazawa, and many many many more....

Constructive criticism

Yup, finally a new comic 8D

Constructive criticism is something frequently asked, not so much given and if, most times not even constructive ;D But if you gain some, it can help you a lot. Like A LOT.

And than there is criticism of pictures, that is hard, in the sense of HARD....

But hey, even that helped. Except the part where I just threw that pic away and didn't draw it again. But retrospective it was really, really poor drawn.

By the way, if you find grammar or spelling mistakes, please leave a comment, I'll correct it soon ^^

Have fun! 8D

Something about manga issues and more unfinished digital stuff

Hi out there! 8D

I feel a little dizzy, cause I didn't slept that well (there was a thunderstorm with everything, and I woke up a several times, and continued to build the sounds from outside into my dreams. That led me to a dream where mini-tornadoes destroyed the car of my sister (which was more funny than frightening, and at some point I realized that my sister doesen't even own a car....) ...well.)

PICTURES!
It's the digital painting again, I worked on it a little bit, and here's another snapshot of the current state of work.
Are all digital drawers that slowly? I guess not, but I think I'll have to learn more in this section ^^;

Something is still not right with that. I just can't figure out what...

And here's the new comic ;)

....she's got that talent XD

Have a nice day ;)
Cheers

Something about my normality. And music!

Hi out there! :D

As promised, another comic about my daily life ^^

Yes, typically I don't talk to my pictures while drawing. I rather rant and rave at them. (For some reason it's especially the pencil-pictures I rant on, and nearly never stuff in ink or photoshop or something.... Maybe cause I use pencils most of the time?)
Anyone who can understand? ;)

Aaaand here a link to promised music XD Klick me, I'm an enchanted link!
Svetlana Chmacova, a canadian manga-artist whose comics I adore, drew the cover and linked to the band. Fist I just wanted to hear what it's all about, then I ended up listening the whole album 4 or 5 times at a stretch. For a debut it's really good in my ears ;D Probably I will buy that CD as soon as I can.

Have a nice day!
Cheers

Another experiment and something about Titanic

Hi out there! (and a special Hi to my first follower... Hi! :D)

So, today my boss showed me a method to combine analog with digital painting. The principle is easy, you just take a black/white/grey analog painting, scan it and put the colors with photoshop under the structure, so you can still see the original drawing style through...

My quick trying looks this way:

I really like the effect that you can still see the rough brush stroke coming through.

Well, and I finished another comic strip...true story again ;)

Have a nice day! :D

Back from weekend with new pictures 8D

Hi out there!

After a busy weekend I got more pictures for you! 8D

This first was made after this tutorial, and I didn't care sooo much on the figure itself but more on the effects all around... it's funny, how you can produce a pic that is somewhat okay in a really short time, just through simple effects and stuff :B

And second, I produced a profile-pic for myself... from a pencil-sketch, inked with brush pen and 5 min coloration on photoshop.

Think it fits me XD
Cheers, see you soon
